Hello, and welcome to my first game review (yayyy!!)
So, as most of you fine folks out there have heard by now, Rockstar basically knocked it out of the park with this game, which just came out last Tuesday.
Of course, it does have a few shortcomings: The vehicles don’t drive as well as they probably should (but who knows – they’re period cards from post WW2, and I will probably never get to drive one!), and the combat system invokes matrix online a bit (you have to hit ‘a’ to actually participate in a fight, else get rolled). Now, in my opinion, once you get the hang of ‘entering’ a fight you’re already in, the system seems to work well, but that’s just me.
BUT – That’s it. The rest of the game is pure, unadulterated win. There’s mysteries, you have to pay careful attention to EVERYONE you interview, and you have to piece these things together carefully. Else, you wind up jumping the gun, and failing miserably. Also, as you’re going from place to place, side missions pop up faster than you can keep track of, which has always been something I think Rockstar has done well: they give you a metric ton of alternate content to break up the main storyline as the you sees fit.
So, in closing this first review: I was never a detective in the 40′s or 50′s, but, I like to think this game does a pretty good job of emulating it.
